movies, october

Caught:

  • Little Black Book - good if you like Jerry Springer, otherwise a waste of time.
  • Riding in Cars with Boys - worth a watch
  • The Piano Teacher - to keep up with my French knowledge, I occasionally watch a French show. However they always seem to be disturbing. This one is no exception.
  • Summer Catch - the ideal feel good movie on a dreary day, I don’t know what Quickflix’s algorithm for sending me movies these days are…
  • Chasing Papi - funny, if you need a pick me up. But otherwise give it a miss.
  • Devil’s Arithmetic - shocking. I’ve never paid much attention to the Holocaust but maybe I should sometime. Complete, utter, evilness.
  • Under the Tuscan Sun - nice, quite unlike the book. This movie is a keeper, or maybe its because I’ve recently been hooked on Frances Mayes.
  • Anatomy of Hell - another French show, disturbing. I think I’ve got to take a break from watching French movies. Or turn on some “children” mode in Quickflix, as all the French stuff they send me seems to be R rated.
  • The Departed, caught in the cinema. Truly interesting, and a show where you can say, “everyone died” in the end. Plots twisted, so be alert.
  • I Love You to Death - unexpected ending, it wasn’t all that great. If someone shot me, I’d not be about to forgive them…
  • Airheads - based on a true story, and there’s lots of rock and roll, this wasn’t too bad a watch.
  • A History of Violence - skip it. Man remakes himself only to turn killer, using his bare hands (and a gun). I’ll pass.
  • Real Women Have Curves - hmm, skip it. Unless watching movies about disadvantaged people, making it interest you.
  • Head of State - funny, its got some comedy value. I think I might have seen it on cable TV a while back though…
  • The Devil Wears Prada - this is a movie that I’ve somehow (non-willingly) avoided watching in the United States, and Malaysia. Its on its last leg here in Australia, and I must admit it was pretty darn funny. The line I took away from it: “Here’s a toast to doing jobs that let us pay the rent.”

Quickflix comments: I can’t mark more than 3 titles returned. That really sucks. The fact that on the 19th I posted back a couple of DVDs from Sydney, it still hasn’t registered in their system as received on the 23rd.
