I'm planning on getting one, but may wait for the next version of it and possibly a slightly bigger screen. The first thing I'm gonna do is erase Xandros and put EeePCLinuxOS (the EeePC version of PCLinuxOS) on there with full KDE! If you think Ubuntu is easy to use, you haven't tried PCLinuxOS...

What's the price you paid in AUD? I finally saw it in Lowyat and there was GOBs of it there. The screen size is a tad small but I figure that It's nice. It would be great if the battery would last like the whole day (hope) then I can actually use it as an ebook reader.

how does the CPU fare? Can it play AVI files and more importantly, is it speedy enough to play rmvb files?

Xandros has paid the Microsoft (patent) protection racket, so ASUS (which is a huge OEM) isn't going to get sued by Microsoft for shipping it.

Agreed Hub, agreed. The choice of applications were not smart at all. I was however, impressed that on the desktop, they had some links to online applications (Wikipedia, Google Docs) - one wonders if the online desktop concept is coming into play, in the future.

Xandros is by far, a pretty bad Linux distribution. If ASUS were smart, they'd have gone Ubuntu, seeing that its easy to use, and well supported. If it were Ubuntu on the eeePC (and a not locked down version either), I'd have kept the OS, with no issues whatsoever.

eeedora does have its own set of quirks, that I'm sure I'll go through and fix, in due time. Its nice to be hacking on distro stuff again ;)

Why not evince? because it is KDE based (wait, they ship pidgin...). Then they could put kpdf, but that would assume that the people that did the firmware actually had a clue. The more proprietary stuff the push in, the happier they are. I'm convince that Asus chose the worst provider for their Linux-based OS.

I think you did yourself a favor installing a real distro.
