Oracle users on Solaris still prefer UFS for performance reasons. I haven't seen any MySQL/ZFS/other comparison benchmarks. And yeah, what Brian said - sure OS X comes with a bunch of cool software, but you have no easy way of updating it except Apple's patches.

Hi!

Without a better package management system, I have some doubts on seeing OSX become a very popular platform for hosting. Managing it is awesome for an end user, but for someone trying to deploy toasters with software? It has a ways to go.

Cheers,
 -Brian

@Tony: I believe some of the internal operations of HFS+ are serialized, so particularly when you add RAID/more disks this might start to show as a bottleneck.

What are the issues with running servers off of HFS+ formatted disks? I'm looking forward to ZFS as much as the next filesystem-loving guy, but I've run servers with HFS+ formatted disks without issue for a few years now.

I'm genuinely interested and not flaming.
