{"id":116,"date":"2004-04-30T09:49:55","date_gmt":"2004-04-30T14:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=116"},"modified":"2005-06-15T17:52:46","modified_gmt":"2005-06-15T22:52:46","slug":"making-a-floating-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2004\/04\/30\/making-a-floating-head","title":{"rendered":"Making a floating head (hackergotchi)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All these <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetplanet.org\">Planets<\/a> have those floating heads around them (aka hackergotchi). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnome.org\/~jdub\/\">Jeff<\/a> gave me some instructions a few days ago, and I said I&#8217;ll write them up after having success with them &#8211; so I present the official jdub method. BTW, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pipka.org\/blog\/1083272709?flav=roses\">congratulations Jeff &#038; Pia<\/a>! <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove unnecessary bits out of the picture, so you just get the head<\/li>\n<li>Select by alpha (Layers, Channels &#038; Paths dialog)<\/li>\n<li>Make a new layer<\/li>\n<li>Feather the selection (growing\/shrinking before might be necessary)<\/li>\n<li>Fill with black &#8211; the black color thumbnail is mighty handy for this<\/li>\n<li>Then change the opacity of the channel, and move the shadow down to the right, to taste<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I&#8217;ve found that the Drop Shadow plugin works okay as well, but its not as good as manual intervention. Estimated time for completing a head can be around ten minutes or so.
