{"id":1763,"date":"2010-05-10T19:45:44","date_gmt":"2010-05-11T00:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/?p=1763"},"modified":"2010-05-10T19:56:44","modified_gmt":"2010-05-11T00:56:44","slug":"donating-to-firefox-add-ons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2010\/05\/10\/donating-to-firefox-add-ons","title":{"rendered":"Donating to Firefox add-ons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to get <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/addon\/433\">Flashblock<\/a> installed in my browser after a hiatus, and saw something interesting:<br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/byte\/4597281862\/\" title=\"Firefox plugin donations by byte, on Flickr\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4061\/4597281862_8435495ea7.jpg?resize=500%2C129\" width=\"500\" height=\"129\" alt=\"Firefox plugin donations\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the add-ons page telling me that you can now make a small donation to the developer of the plugin so they can continue development on it. There&#8217;s a suggested amount (in this case $5), and when you do click on Contribute, you&#8217;re given options: one-time suggested donation, any price you&#8217;d like to give, or a recurring monthly contribution. All this is fulfilled quite simply via Paypal. I actually know of one of the developers of Flashblock &#8211; a Malaysian developer, <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/user\/408\">Philip Chee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/byte\/137259512\/\" title=\"Mark's keynote by byte, on Flickr\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/46\/137259512_c2d3d445e3_m.jpg?resize=240%2C160\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" alt=\"Money in a cap\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>I find Flashblock useful. Donating definitely makes sense. Then I immediately thought of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mywot.com\/\">WOT &#8211; Web of Trust<\/a>. I use the service on a daily basis. Would a <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/addon\/3456\">donation of $10 to WoT<\/a> make sense? Absolutely. It makes the web safer for me to browse. It adds that added layer of security before I go ahead and click on a link.<\/p>\n<p><b>Do you donate to the add-ons that you use the most?
