{"id":224,"date":"2004-10-10T06:10:58","date_gmt":"2004-10-10T11:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=224"},"modified":"2004-10-10T06:10:58","modified_gmt":"2004-10-10T11:10:58","slug":"observations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2004\/10\/10\/observations","title":{"rendered":"Observations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redhat.com\/mailman\/listinfo\/nahant-beta-list\">nahant-beta-list<\/a> for a while now and don&#8217;t notice a heap of posts there, like the users you&#8217;d get on Fedora lists, or the testers on fedora-test-list. Either RHEL4-beta &#8220;just works&#8221;, or many aren&#8217;t testing it as rigorously as they are Fedora. I wonder what Red Hat&#8217;s thoughts on this are, as they created the &#8220;split&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Also notice many hundreds of posts on fedora-list that are still Fedora Core 1 related. These should all be on Legacy list, or should not exist at all &#8211; its <em>unsupported<\/em> already (unless its security updates via Legacy). Why are end users still on FC1?<\/p>\n<p>Panu brought up the topic of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redhat.com\/archives\/fedora-devel-list\/2004-October\/msg00505.html\">default browser<\/a> in FC3. We now include Firefox, Mozilla, and Epiphany, with the default being set to the latter, as opposed to Firefox. The GNOME choice is Epiphany, and Fedora sticks with upstream right? Ironic that down in Ubuntu land, they&#8217;ve gone Firefox too (with all the GNOME big &#8216;uns there).<\/p>\n<p>Popped the nice new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.specifix.com\/\">Specifix Linux<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.specifix.com\/pipermail\/distro-list\/2004-October\/000150.html\">0.11 alpha<\/a>. It now sports a graphical installer, which worked on the i845-based graphics card for the installation. Upon start-up, manual loading of <tt>i810<\/tt> to get X working was required.
