{"id":2720,"date":"2013-05-07T19:57:25","date_gmt":"2013-05-08T00:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/?p=2720"},"modified":"2013-05-07T19:57:31","modified_gmt":"2013-05-08T00:57:31","slug":"seeing-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2013\/05\/07\/seeing-the-future","title":{"rendered":"Seeing the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I cannot say this better than Dustin Curtis can, so read it: <a href=\"http:\/\/dcurt.is\/what-a-stupid-idea\">What a stupid idea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>They saw the future and they built it.<\/strong> But for some reason, my first reaction to their earliest attempts wasn&#8217;t to give them the benefit of the doubt\u2014it was to immediately find problems and then dismiss their ideas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The future is extremely hard to see through the lens of the present.<\/strong> It&#8217;s very easy to unconsciously dismiss the first versions of something as frivolous or useless. Or as stupid ideas.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We all talk about being disruptive, but how many people say things like &#8220;the relational database market is a $9bn market, I want to reduce it to a $3bn market and take 1\/3 of that&#8221;? Saying is one thing, having the vision is another.
