Being part of an <a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.org\/\">upstream project<\/a> that ships on many platforms, it is in my interest to make sure that all things \u201cjust work\u201d on the myriad of platforms out there that we support.<\/p>\n<p>In CentOS 6.5, changing a hostname is a process of editing \/<tt>etc\/sysconfig\/network<\/tt>, making sure the <tt>\/etc\/hosts<\/tt> file is sensible and fixing it with the <tt>hostname<\/tt> command. Rackspace has a good <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rackspace.com\/knowledge_center\/article\/centos-hostname-change\">support article<\/a> on this.<\/p>\n<p>This is the world before <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Systemd\">systemd<\/a>. Now in Fedora 20, this muscle memory goes away in favour of using <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.fedoraproject.org\/en-US\/Fedora\/18\/html\/System_Administrators_Guide\/s1_Using_Hostnamectl.html\">hostnamectl<\/a> (docs from the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.fedoraproject.org\/en-US\/Fedora\/18\/html\/System_Administrators_Guide\/index.html\">System Administrator\u2019s Guide<\/a>). Now all I have to do is:\u00a0<tt>sudo hostnamectl set-hostname &lt;newhostname&gt;<\/tt>.<\/p>\n<p>I see a whole host of <a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.atlassian.net\/issues\/?jql=text%20~%20%22systemd%22\">feature requests<\/a> with regards to MariaDB &amp; systemd as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/bugs.mysql.com\/bug.php?id=65809\">a<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/bugs.mysql.com\/bug.php?id=61948\">couple<\/a> for MySQL.
