Nowadays its backed by the fact that you have the .com easily available on your mobile phone\u2019s popup keyboard as well.<\/p>\n<p>But lately I\u2019ve seen some quality sites launch and they don\u2019t have the .com\u2019s to go with it. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.appleworld.today\/\">AppleWorld.Today<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/fusion.net\/\">Fusion.net<\/a>. In the past, let\u2019s not forger <a href=\"http:\/\/recode.net\/\">&lt;re\/code&gt;<\/a> from the AllThingsD folk at Wall Street Journal (also, .net). You\u2019ve always had John Gruber\u2019s Daring Fireball in the .net-namespace.<\/p>\n<p>So maybe you don\u2019t need the .com and you\u2019ll do just fine.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s interesting to travel to places like Iceland where its common to see domains with .is. They\u2019re happy using their country code top level domains (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Top-level_domain\">TLDs<\/a>).
