{"id":322,"date":"2005-06-25T01:58:15","date_gmt":"2005-06-25T06:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=322"},"modified":"2005-06-25T05:58:28","modified_gmt":"2005-06-25T10:58:28","slug":"maemo-and-fedora","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2005\/06\/25\/maemo-and-fedora","title":{"rendered":"Maemo and Fedora"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I refuse to have my Xorg run at 16-bit depth, so, here&#8217;s a better way of running Maemo, rather than the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maemo.org\/platform\/docs\/tutorials\/Maemo_tutorial.html#settingup\">prescribed Xnest<\/a> method. Install <tt>vncviewer<\/tt> and <tt>vnc-server<\/tt>, then:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><tt> Xvnc -geometry 800x480 -dpi 72 -ac :2 -depth 16 -rfbauth ~\/.vnc\/passwd &<\/tt> &#8211; this creates an Xvnc server with size 800&#215;480 (to fit Maemo), with a DPI of 72 (you may want 96, but it seems rather large). This creates it on display :2 with a 16-bit depth, and the password file to be read is in ~\/.vnc\/passwd.<\/li>\n<li>Create a VNC password, by using <tt>vncpasswd<\/tt><\/li>\n<li>Then, type <tt>vncviewer :2<\/tt>, enter the password, and you&#8217;ll have a window appear. Now in scratchbox, just type <tt>af-sb-init.sh start<\/tt>. Make sure you already ran <tt>export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:2<\/tt> in scratchbox as well.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On Fedora Core 4, remember, you want to <tt>echo 0 > \/proc\/sys\/kernel\/vdso<\/tt> as well, to ensure scratchbox will even start. The tutorial is incorrect in terms of telling you where to get maemopad &#8211; grab it from <a href=\"http:\/\/repository.maemo.org\/stable\/1.0\/applications\/maemopad\/\">http:\/\/repository.maemo.org\/stable\/1.0\/applications\/maemopad\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bytebot.net\/shots\/maemo.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bytebot.net\/shots\/maemo-s.png\" alt=\"maemo on fedora\" border=\"0\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><br \/><small>Maemo on FC-4; changing the input method<\/small><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Interesting reading is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linuxjournal.com\/article\/8351\">interview with Dr. Ari Jaaksi<\/a> from Nokia. Debian&#8217;s packaging format was the only thing chosen, as the kernels come from upstream kernel.org.
