Watched some of the teaching being done, I&#8217;m proud one of my &#8220;students&#8221; is now teaching school children OpenOffice.org; but I&#8217;ve found errors in the way teaching is performed. This being the first time I&#8217;ve sat in a class in a public school, I was a little shocked at the redundancy and time wastage &#8211; I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;ll overcome this soon.<\/p>\n<p>Reading on why the <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.opensource.org.au\/pipermail\/osia-discuss\/2004-February\/000037.html\">Internode Mirror switched from FreeBSD to Linux<\/a> are are just marginally happy, makes me think (in fact, it should make all you OSS proponents think hard). These people even have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemis.com\/grog\/\">Greg Lehey<\/a> to help (when they were FreeBSD&#8217;ing). How do we address what the commercial market needs? How are we convincing hardware manufacturers that stuff needs to be supported? Can you <a href=\"http:\/\/ask.slashdot.org\/article.pl?sid=04\/02\/05\/2351248&#038;mode=flat&#038;tid=126&#038;tid=163&#038;tid=185\">run a business on open source software<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Russell Jones cruft on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.devx.com\/opensource\/Article\/20111\">Open Source being Fertile Ground for Foul Play<\/a> is complete FUD. <i>Surely some nasty bastard will insert code for that open source taxation software and <b>not<\/b> share it<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p>On other notes, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techworld.com\/news\/index.cfm?fuseaction=displaynews&#038;newsid=1002\">XP-Lite<\/a> is Redmond&#8217;s new offering to compete in Asia. If Thailand told them to go away, I hope the rest of Asia&#8217;s just as clueful. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/news\/infostructure\/0,1377,62236,00.html?tw=wn_bizhead_2\">Munich&#8217;s migration<\/a> not going as planned? I&#8217;m sure the bugs will get ironed out, as it serves as a great test case for other governments; like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linuxworld.com.au\/index.php?id=1508859977&#038;fp=2&#038;fpid=1\">French government<\/a> with Project ADELE.<\/p>\n<p>From an OpenOffice.org solution standpoint, why is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/news\/article\/0,aid,114782,00.asp\">IBM eyeing Office for Linux?<\/a> Nasty digs at Sun with being &#8220;too small&#8221;, and Lotus Notes making an apperance on the Linux desktop. With the Mac OS X port still being finalised, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/mld\/mercurynews\/business\/7959851.htm\">Evermore Integrated Office<\/a> seems to have sprung up, at a cost, from a Chinese company. They think the Mac OS market will look towards them; they&#8217;re right, we really need to make a release soon.
