Yes they&#8217;re still alive, even though MySpace and so forth are around and kicking. Had to Google them (I wanted to find their old talk about their storage engine), and found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysql.com\/customers\/customer.php?id=78\">MySQL Customers &#8211; Friendster<\/a>, instead. From 2005, Dathan&#8217;s (now at Flickr) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysqluc.com\/cs\/mysqluc2005\/view\/e_sess\/6447\">presentation<\/a>. Never did find the storage engine stuff, beyond random bits in the press.<\/li>\n<li>Probably the <i>best<\/i> blog post that hit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetmysql.org\/\">Planet MySQL<\/a>, as opposed to the session summaries and so on, comes from <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.kovyrin.net\/2007\/04\/25\/mysql-conference-2007-first-impressions-and-findings\/\">Alexy Kovyrin<\/a>. I quote: <i><b>&#8220;P.S. Just remembered &#8211; I saw some women-DBAs today! Really smart girls! I never thought that pretty girl can become such great IT prefessional and now I know &#8211; I was really wrong.&#8221;<\/b><\/i> Maybe we&#8217;ll have the MySQL-Women group, following on the LinuxChix.<\/li>\n<li>While Adam Donnison from the web team at MySQL gave his talk, I noticed Planet MySQL go down. Looks like the rest of the folk in his talk did too, and Jan Lehnardt says it best in <a href=\"http:\/\/jan.prima.de\/%7Ejan\/plok\/archives\/66-Oh-Irony%21.html\">Oh Irony!<\/a> <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dorsalsource.org\/\">DorsalSource<\/a>. Congratulations Jeremy Cole, and Solid. I am highly impressed with all the available binaries, from a trusted source. We&#8217;ve got the RHEL vs. Fedora vs. CentOS split now :-) (sure, building MySQL isn&#8217;t rocket science, as opposed to rebuilding an entire distribution, but consider DorsalSource+patches to be like the kbs-CentOS-Extras repository)<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft is also wanting to sleep with MySQL, these days. Must be a promiscious world we&#8217;re living in (they probably got jealous with IBM\/DB2 <a href=\"http:\/\/www-03.ibm.com\/press\/us\/en\/pressrelease\/21430.wss\">already<\/a> being in bed with MySQL). Read <a href=\"http:\/\/port25.technet.com\/archive\/2007\/04\/24\/the-beautiful-game.aspx\">The Beautiful Game<\/a>, and of course <a href=\"http:\/\/port25.technet.com\/archive\/2007\/04\/25\/mysql-guest-blog-mysql-and-windows.aspx\">MySQL on Windows: A Beautiful Game<\/a>. I expect this isn&#8217;t one off (Port25, Microsoft&#8217;s open source effort, has had a lot of open source database articles in recent times).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some of my photos from the MySQL Conference &amp; Expo &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/byte\/archives\/date-taken\/2007\/04\/26\/\">26 April<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/byte\/archives\/date-taken\/2007\/04\/27\/\">27 April<\/a>. I wish I had more time &amp; energy (&amp; inspiration) to take more photos. Next year, more community members should stick around and we should all eat, meet and greet. The Fish Market has got good seafood (save for their lobster, which comes from&#8230; Australia.
