{"id":843,"date":"2008-06-23T22:03:58","date_gmt":"2008-06-24T03:03:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/?p=843"},"modified":"2008-06-23T22:03:58","modified_gmt":"2008-06-24T03:03:58","slug":"oreilly-to-offer-drm-free-ebooks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2008\/06\/23\/oreilly-to-offer-drm-free-ebooks","title":{"rendered":"O&#8217;Reilly to offer DRM-free ebooks&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I for one, welcome that O&#8217;Reilly will soon be offering <a href=\"http:\/\/toc.oreilly.com\/2008\/06\/select-oreilly-books-soon-on-kindle-and-as-drm-free-digital-bundle.html\">books for the Kindle, and as DRM-free digital bundles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a reason why I have a <a href=\"http:\/\/safari.oreilly.com\/\">Safari<\/a> subscription: I like reading technical books on my laptop (because I can search through it), and more importantly, because recently I have in my possession, an eBook reader (from Sony).<\/p>\n<p>There is no mention if Safari subscribers get access to the eBook bundles (currently, I already am at the most expensive Safari subscription you can get). My current method is downloading chapter by chapter, but I&#8217;m only given 5 download tokens a month, for <em>free<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>James Webster posts a <a href=\"http:\/\/toc.oreilly.com\/2008\/06\/select-oreilly-books-soon-on-kindle-and-as-drm-free-digital-bundle.html#comment-2017998\">comment<\/a> on the blog, asking if this will be available for Safari users&#8230; Andrew Savikas <a href=\"http:\/\/toc.oreilly.com\/2008\/06\/select-oreilly-books-soon-on-kindle-and-as-drm-free-digital-bundle.html#comment-2018169\">replies<\/a> saying they&#8217;re working on it.<\/p>\n<p>Today, each PDF chapter I get off Safari, is DRM-free (its just a PDF, no need to input password, etc.). It&#8217;d be nice if I could just download the entire book (with one download token), and read it on my eBook reader, as is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Reilly, if you&#8217;re reading, it&#8217;d be the smartest thing you&#8217;d do.
