{"id":1378,"date":"2009-03-17T03:17:09","date_gmt":"2009-03-17T08:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/?p=1378"},"modified":"2009-03-17T03:17:09","modified_gmt":"2009-03-17T08:17:09","slug":"on-silly-websites-and-st-patricks-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2009\/03\/17\/on-silly-websites-and-st-patricks-day","title":{"rendered":"On silly websites, and St. Patrick&#8217;s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I was listening to what is becoming my new favourite radio station, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bfm.my\/\">BFM 89.9<\/a>, and I heard the Marketing Manager for Guinness (well, GAB Sdn Bhd) talking about a range of topics, from the sin tax on alcohol (2nd highest in the world, following Norway!) to what a big deal St. Patrick&#8217;s Day in Malaysia is (must be &#8212; GAB disgustingly pays bloggers to write about it). If you care to listen, BFM is all modern with the relevant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bfm.my\/557.html\">blog\/podcast<\/a>. Two things come to mind.<\/p>\n<p><b>St. Patrick&#8217;s Day Drunk Dial<\/b><br \/>\nCheck out the <a href=\"http:\/\/stpatsdrunkdial.com\/\">St. Patrick&#8217;s Day Drunk Dial<\/a>. Call the number anywhere between March 13 and 23, to win a prize even, for the best entry ;) <\/p>\n<p>Why do I even mention the site? Because my colleague Dups, is one of the guys behind this. Check out his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dups.ca\/blog\/?cat=26\">journal entries<\/a> on this.<\/p>\n<p><b>Guinness has a stupid website<\/b><br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/byte\/3355540671\/\" title=\"GUINNESS Malaysia by byte, on Flickr\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3557\/3355540671_1fab02bd7e.jpg?resize=500%2C414\" width=\"500\" height=\"414\" alt=\"GUINNESS Malaysia\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t link to what I consider silly, but Guinness Malaysia needs to think twice about their website.<\/p>\n<p>One should think its sufficient to enter based on clicking &#8220;Yes, I am a non-Muslim aged 21 years and above&#8221;, but asking for the I.C. number? The I.C. being the Malaysian Identity Card is not something one should give away lightly. How do you know if the number isn&#8217;t cached? Isn&#8217;t stolen and used for other devious purposes?<\/p>\n<p>I wonder how many people check out the site and freely give away their I.C. numbers.
