This prompted me to post to the <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/google-summer-of-code-discuss\">summer-discuss<\/a> list, <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/google-summer-of-code-discuss\/t\/da48ecbff8f73f24\">pimping<\/a> some new projects. We&#8217;re rocking in getting external mentors, for projects that will benefit the community:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bytebot.net\/blog\/archives\/2007\/03\/20\/its-mid-week-for-the-google-summer-of-code-we-have-some-new-goodies\">pimped<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/sheeri.com\/\">Sheeri<\/a> a few days ago, and she&#8217;s got the <a href=\"http:\/\/forge.mysql.com\/wiki\/SummerOfCode#MySQL_Auditing_Software\">MySQL Auditing Software<\/a> up her sleeve<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ve also got <a href=\"http:\/\/pbxt.blogspot.com\/\">Paul McCullagh<\/a> (of PBXT storage engine fame), wanting <a href=\"http:\/\/forge.mysql.com\/wiki\/SummerOfCode#The_.22anti-profiler.22_-_a_performance_analysis_tool_for_database_engines\">The &#8220;anti-profiler&#8221; &#8211; a performance analysis tool for database engines<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now comes the interesting task of separating the wheat from the chaff. We prefer applications that are <b>specific<\/b> (don&#8217;t send an application saying you&#8217;ll work on anything &#8211; thats not a strong application, at all). <b>Check your feedback<\/b>. We can&#8217;t be emailing all of you individually and tying that in with the Google web-app, as well. <\/p>\n<p>In case anyone&#8217;s wondering why the Friday-&gt;Saturday has given us a 70% increase in applications, I&#8217;m pretty certain its the idea behind college kids liking to procrastinate and leaving things to the last minute.
